Writer’s burnout is when a writer dislikes their work and second-guesses their professional abilities for an extended amount of time.
There are numerous reasons a writer’s burnout can occur. Balancing between writing for yourself and writing for other people can get extremely tiring. If you are frustrated by the constant desire to produce the perfect material during your writing process, don’t worry. You are one of many writers that are going through this kind of crisis.
Here are some tips for those of you who think you are struggling with similar issues:
Find out what’s wrong
This is the most obvious first step. Get to the root of the problem and figure out the best solution. We know you have probably heard this advice several times but it is the most important one; find out what is going wrong.
Don’t take a break from writing
When you find yourself in this kind of situation, your first instinct is probably to stop writing; DON’T! We know writing is hard but the last thing you need to do right is give up. You can probably take a break from the ones that are stressing you out and work on something else. Let go of all the pressure and forget about the expectations you think you need to live up to. But don’t stop writing and let your creative juices flow.
Get physical
Exercise or any form of physical activity can help you in ways you could not have imagined. The hormonal boost and the endorphins are a great way to battle writer’s burnout. Exercising from time to time is good for your mind, body, and will help you achieve the energy level you need to get your writing started. Engaging in yoga, home workouts or even taking a walk are great ways for you to release those endorphins.
Write down your thoughts
Write down how you are feeling, where you want to see yourself, and the goals you wish to reach someday. You can also add some random things you have thought about or some ideas you recently had. You can spend a couple of minutes every day to do this. Doing this will keep you motivated and articulate your thoughts so you can understand them better.
Drink water
This is might be kind of unusual advice to include here but hear us out. Dehydration leads to many problems such as digestive issues, high blood pressure, skin dryness, and fatigue. Make sure to keep yourself hydrated. This way you will have lesser migraines when you work on your book.
Talk to people
Talking to people and seeking help from friends, family or even therapists or coaches will help you break down your problem and get to the bottom of it. External help will help you make changes and prevent you from any further burnouts. So feel free to reach out to people who think could help you through your writing journey.
